Melisa Ngan, Manager of Donor Circles at ROM Governors

Meet Melisa Ngan

What is your occupation?
I am the Manager of Donor Circles with the ROM Governors, and I am one of the newest members of the team!

What was the last book you read?
Becoming by Michelle Obama.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
By Your Side by Sade. Her voice is the perfect combination of soul, class and timeless elegance.

Where is your favourite place in the world?
This is a tough question! If I had to choose, it would be Monteverde, Costa Rica. One of my favourite travel memories was joining a night hike on a trail in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The Cloud Forest reserve shelters countless wildlife species, and the marked trails cut through lush trees, ferns and orchids, and way overhead, suspended bridges allow walks above the forest canopy. Sounds like a dream, right?

The whole country is enveloped by natural beauty, and the Costa Rican people are one of the friendliest and nicest people I’ve ever met. Pura Vida.

Why did you want to work at the ROM?
I have so many happy childhood memories at the ROM, and in part due to the regular visits I had with my family to the Museum, it helped develop and shape my strong interests in history, so much that I decided to major in history for my university studies! As a history graduate, my dream has always been to work for the ROM. I am so honoured to join the team… It truly feels like I’m coming home!

What do you like best about working at the ROM?
There is always something new to learn and new people to meet. The Museum is a hub for cultural activity and exchange of ideas, and I have the first-hand opportunity to learn something new everyday, just by coming in to work.

Describe the ROM in one word.
Magical. The ROM is a place where the past meets the present, and helps shape the future.

Tell us one of your favourite ROM memories.
Walking through the bat cave with my daughter. She was so fascinated with the interactive learning experience, and the experience sparked a new interest for her.

What excites you most about working with YPC?
To have the ability to meet and develop strong relationships with YPC members, who are an amazing group of leaders in our community, and the next generation of philanthropists.

If you could have anything from the ROM’s collections, what would you choose?
Right now, a vintage Rolls-Royce is visiting the ROM… I would love to take that beauty out for a ride!
