Exclusively for Members

Enjoy an exclusive Member viewing of Quilts: Made in Canada on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. Welcome remarks by Arlene Gehmacher, L.R. Wilson Curator of Canadian Art & Culture, will take place at 11:00 am inside the exhibition on Level 3, Third Floor Centre Block.

From the permanent collections comes a new ROM original exhibition highlighting some of the most visually intoxicating examples of artistry, composition, and construction made in Canada: quilts. Quilts are repositories of past and present lives, and on the surface, are masterworks of colour, composition, design, and production. Looking closer, each quilt tells a story – through its makers, its materials, and where, when, how, and why it was made. Featuring rarely displayed Canadian-made quilts dating from the 1850s to the present day, the exhibition reveals engaging - and sometimes unexpected - stories behind quilt making in Canada, and invites us to take a closer look.
